Matthew Wheeler

Matt Wheeler joined ESC in January 2022. As Associate Director of Development & Communications, Matt is responsible for the execution of ESC’s fund development strategy and activities, as well as ESC’s external and internal communications and annual special events.

Matt grew up in Boston and lived in Chicago and San Diego prior to moving to Los Angeles. After moving to LA, Matt transitioned into nonprofit fundraising and found his calling supporting organizations that are working to make people’s lives better. Matt was excited to join our team because working with ESC enables him to support such a wide range of impactful organizations and critical causes. Over his career, Matt has focused on fundraising, communications, and organizational strategy, formerly working in development with CLARE | Matrix (an ESC client), as VP of Strategy and Communications with SEE International, and in philanthropy and development consulting with Brimhall & Associates. Matt’s educational background includes a BA in Literature from Lake Forest College (Lake Forest, IL) and a JD from California Western School of Law (San Diego, CA).

Outside of work, Matt is either spending his time going to plays, concerts, and museums with his wife, Nune, or just enjoying quality time with their dog (Susie) and three cats (Charlie, Beverly, and Princess Leia).
